Baroque Orchestra Academy 2023
We are delighted to present the first edition of The Baroque Orchestra Academy at Confidencen Opera & Music Festival 2023. This course will be held in Stockholm at the Ulriksdal Palace Theatre Confidencen between 28.7 and 5.8 2023.
We call for young instrumentalists who wish to develop their skills in the Baroque style and interpretation. During an intense week the academists will immerse into various aspects of the Baroque style, instructed by the well-renowned coaches: COMF’s artistic director and violinist Peter Spissky, cellist Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann and harpsichord player Marcus Mohlin.
Apart from the musical training, the academists will receive an introduction and basic workshop in baroque dance with dancer and choreographer Karin Modigh.
The one-week program will culminate in three staged performances of ‘A Baroque Catwalk’ under the direction of Peter Spissky, together with musicians from the COMF orchestra and four singers from our Young Artist Program.
The course is free of charge, but the participants will take care of accommodation and travel. On request we will recommend you some accommodation possibilities in the area nearby the theatre.
How to Apply?
All instrumentalists are welcome to apply. The applicants must have started musical education on a university level or already have a diploma and are at the beginning of their career on a historical instrument.
For the audition recording, you are welcome to apply either on a baroque instrument (pitch 415), or on your own modern instrument with modern pitch. The acceptance of the participation will then depend on solving the instrument issue before the summer. In case you do not own any historical instrument, contact the COMF office, and we will try to facilitate borrowing of an instrument.
Only applicants on the historical wind instruments are admitted.
The applicants for the continuo group (Harpsichord/Lute/Harp) should have the basic knowledge of figured bass.
Please send your application to email@example.com no later than May 1st, 2023, with attached
CV + video recording (a link to YouTube or a similar platform) of two movements (fast and slow) from a Baroque sonata or concerto of free choice.
Please, let us also know how you learnt about the academy!
