Kafka and the Doll
29th of September at 4 p.m.
Stina Ekblad takes us on a moving journey 100 years back in time, to the final years of Franz Kafka’s life. In 1920s Berlin, the gravely ill author, suffering from tuberculosis, meets a heartbroken girl searching for her lost doll. A special friendship develops. Love, loss, death, and hope permeate the story, illustrated by Debussy’s song cycle Ariettes Oubliées, piano music by Medtner, and Rachmaninoff’s 6 Romances, Op. 38.
Artists John and Maria are both recipients of the Anders Wall Scholarship and have performed on major stages and opera houses worldwide, ranging from Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Opera in Stockholm to the Globen (Avicii Arena). Stina Ekblad hardly needs further introduction, having won Svenska Dagbladet’s Thalia Prize in 2006, appeared in Ingmar Bergman’s film Fanny and Alexander, and frequently featured as a reciter in SVT’s cultural quiz show Kulturfrågan Kontrapunkt.
